PDG Keith Daley

Past District 7020 Governor (2003-2004) Keith Daley passed away after an illness, on October 2, 2005. He was 67.

Rotarian Keith was actively engaged in community service since becoming a member of the Rotary Club of Kingston in 1970 and served as the club's President in the year 1984-1985, and Governor of District 7020 in 2003-2004. During his Presidency, the club's major project Operation Self Reliance contributed significantly to the integration of persons with disabilities in communities throughout Jamaica with the installation of access facilities and special parking in hotels, banks, supermarkets, churches, shopping malls and theatres. His publication Building Guidelines for the Disabled was widely acclaimed by Disabled Peoples International as one of the most comprehensive documents of its kind and was distributed in many countries throughout the region. Excerpts from the booklet have been incorporated in Jamaica's Building Code.

Rotarian Keith was instrumental in the introduction of sign language translation of the news on Jamaican television which has evolved in close caption, to assist the hearing impaired.

Rotarian Keith was a Paul Harris Fellow, a distinction given to him by the Rotary Club of Kingston, and for his exemplary service and dedication, he was the second recipient of the prestigious Charlie Braham Achievement Award.

Rotarian Keith held 24 years of perfect attendance in his club, the Rotary Club of Kingston and was proud to state that he has a high percentage attendance in at least two other clubs.

Born January 19,1938, in Clarendon, Jamaica. He was educated at Wolmer's Boys School, Mondell's Institute, New York, The University of Technology, and The University of the West Indies.

An Accountant by profession, he received special training in Financial Controlling from ITT Continental, New York, and was Financial Controller of National Packaging Corporation, a subsidiary of N.C.C. before becoming that company's Managing Director and Senior Vice President of National Continental Corporation.

He was later appointed Managing Director of Allied Stores Limited, a position held for ten years before he resigned to become the first Managing Director of the Jamaica Lottery Company. Mr Daley then joined the Victoria Mutual Group as the first General Manager of Victoria Mutual (Property Services) Limited, the company he has piloted for the past 12 years.

He had been very active in Industry and Commerce and served as Secretary of the Administrative Management Society, a Director of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce and President of the Jamaica Retailers Association. He was a member of the American Management Association and was for many years a subject of autobiography in The Marquis Who is Who in The World.

He served for many years as a member of the Board of the Jamaica Association for the Deaf and the Lister Mair/Gilbey School for the Deaf which institution he served as Chairman of the Board. He was instrumental in securing scholarships to blind students and served on the Boards of Deeds Industries and the Jamaica Council for the Handicapped.

In recognition of his services to the Disabled, the Government of Jamaica conferred on him the National Honour of Order of Distinction (O.D.) in 1986.

Keith also served on the Board of the Scouts Association of Jamaica, as President of the Wolmer's Old Boys Association and as a member of the School's Board and Executive Committee. His hobbies included sports, music and fish and bird rearing and he was a member of the Jamaica Masonic Chorale. He represented his school in athletics, cricket and soccer.

He leaves his wife Ruth and daughter, Katherine.
