Guy D. THEODORE is a medical doctor (General Surgeon). Native of Haiti, graduate of School of Medicine in Haiti, he received his surgical training in the U.S.A and later joined the U.S. Air Force where he worked for six (6) years. While away from his homeland, he remained focused on the profound needs of his fellow Haitians and develop a strategy to build the Teaching Hopital Bienfaisance de Pignon where he returned in 1983.
Over the past 28 years, Dr. Theodore has built not only a hospital, but a rich and diverse set of Public Health services encompassing human immunodeficiency virus care, two (2) satellites clinics, dental and eye clinics, midwifery, ten (10) primary schools, clean water and sanitation initiatives, animal husbandry and microfinance programs in Pignon and the surrounding communities.
He is Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. In 2008, he was the Inaugural Recipient of Surgical Humanitarian Award from the American College of Surgeons. He was the first one ever to receive this distinction from the prestigious and renowned international surgical association.
The Surgical Humanitarian Award recognizes surgeons who have dedicated a substantial portion of their career to ensuring the provision of surgical care to underserved populations without expectation of commensurate reimbursement.
With the assistance of expatriate surgeons who volunteer in Pignon Dr. Theodore regularly holds courses for Physicians from all areas of Haiti. His efforts has resulted in a model Hospital facility with a broad complement of Medical - Surgical services and where medical students from USA, the Caribbean and all over Haiti come to receive training.
He has received many distinguished awards and among them
1983 Medal of Honor, United States Air force (U.S.A)
1994 Man of the week on ABC News with Peter Jenning’s – Accomplishments in Humanitarian and Health Care development.
1999 Dr. Leon Audin Award from Haitian Medical Association for the advancement of Science and Medicine in Haiti.
2002 United Nations Foundation Award for achievements in Health Improvement.
2008 Surgical Humanitarian Award from the American College of Surgeons
Guy Dévé THEODORE joined Rotary Club of Jacksonville - Arkansas U.S.A in 1982 where he was serving in the medical corps in the US Air force. He has been a Rotarian for 29 years.
He is a Charter President and Founder of Rotary Club of Pignon - Haiti in 1999 – 2000; Assistant District Governor 2001 – 2004; District Water Chair 2007 – 2008; Haiti Task Force Chair 2007 – 2011. Guy D. THEODORE is a graduated of Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI); He has assisted to numerous District Conferences & Assemblies and over half a dozen of Rotary International Conventions. He is Paul Harris Fellow.
Guy has devoted his life to serve others and the motto from Rotary “Service above Self” really exemplifies his conduct in life.
