Dear Rotarians and Rotaractors of District 7020

I am thrilled to address you as the newly installed District Governor of our vibrant and diverse Rotary District. Last night, in a ceremony held in the Cayman Islands, I had the privilege of having the chain of office transferred to me from our now PDG Deborah Howell by my club member and PDG, Rotary International Director Jeremy Hurst. The occasion was graced by many distinguished individuals, including PDG Deborah Howell, DGE Dominique Bazin, and DGN Bill Aiken, as well as the Governor of the Cayman Islands, Her Excellency Ms Jane Owen, who is also an Honourary Rotarian.
My wife, Christina, and I are eagerly looking forward to embarking on a journey through our district in the coming year. In fact, we start in just one week with our official visit to the clubs of Turks and Caicos. We anticipate visiting each of the remarkable clubs that make up our Rotary District 7020. This will provide us with invaluable opportunities to connect with each of you, learn about your unique initiatives, and witness firsthand the positive impact you create within our communities.
As we enter the month of July, we embrace the focus month of Maternal Health and Childcare. This critical theme underscores our commitment to ensuring the well-being of mothers and children, both in our local communities and globally. I encourage all clubs in our district to engage in activities and projects that address this vital aspect of our Rotary service. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of mothers and children, supporting their health and well-being.
Some also say that July can be called Administration Month with all the new leadership taking the helm. I take this opportunity to extend my congratulations to all the newly appointed Club Presidents across District 7020. Your dedication and commitment to Rotary is commendable, and I am confident that under your leadership, and with the help of your newly installed boards, our clubs will flourish and continue to serve as beacons of positive change through your People of Action.
Additionally, my congratulations go out to my incoming district administration. I may be at the helm of this ship, but you are the all-important crew for so many vital tasks. The year ahead may be challenging, but I have no doubt that, with your passion and hard work, and being proactive in your engagement in our district, we will achieve great things together. Let us work collaboratively, leveraging our collective strengths to build on the PDG Deborah’s year.
This year, our Rotary International theme articulated by President R. Gordon R. McInally is "Create Hope in the World." It is a call to action, reminding us of the power we possess to make a difference in the lives of others. As District Governor, my focus will mirror one of the two focus areas of President Gordon, mental health and wellness. We understand the critical importance of supporting and advocating for the mental well-being of individuals within our communities, and indeed within our own clubs. By creating awareness, promoting access to resources, working with local NGO’s, and fostering an environment of empathy and understanding, we can positively impact countless lives.
Together, let us make mental health awareness a priority, both within our Rotary clubs and the broader community. Start conversations. Ask how your fellow Rotarians are doing, then ask, ‘How are they really doing?’. By doing so, we will contribute to the creation of a world where hope thrives, and individuals feel empowered to overcome the challenges they face.

Je suis ravi de m'adresser à vous en tant que nouveau gouverneur de district de notre vibrant et diversifié District Rotary. Hier soir, lors d'une cérémonie organisée aux îles Caïmans, j'ai eu le privilège de recevoir la chaîne de fonction de notre ancienne gouverneure de district PDG Deborah Howell, remise par un membre de mon club et PDG, le directeur international du Rotary Jeremy Hurst. L'occasion a été honorée par de nombreuses personnalités distinguées, dont la PDG Deborah Howell, le DGE Dominique Bazin et le DGN Bill Aiken, ainsi que la gouverneure des îles Caïmans, Son Excellence Mme Jane Owen, qui est également membre d'honneur du Rotary.
Ma femme, Christina, et moi sommes impatients d'entamer un voyage à travers notre district au cours de l'année à venir. En fait, nous commencerons dans une semaine seulement par notre visite officielle aux clubs des îles Turques et Caïques. Nous prévoyons de rendre visite à chacun des clubs remarquables qui composent notre District Rotary 7020. Cela nous offrira de précieuses occasions de vous rencontrer, de découvrir vos initiatives uniques et de constater directement l'impact positif que vous avez au sein de nos communautés.
Alors que nous entrons dans le mois de juillet, nous célébrons le mois de la santé maternelle et de la garde des enfants. Ce thème crucial souligne notre engagement à assurer le bien-être des mères et des enfants, tant dans nos communautés locales que dans le monde entier. J'encourage tous les clubs de notre district à s'engager dans des activités et des projets qui abordent cet aspect vital de notre service rotary. Ensemble, nous pouvons faire une différence tangible dans la vie des mères et des enfants, en soutenant leur santé et leur bien-être.
Certains disent aussi que juillet peut être appelé le mois de l'administration, avec tous les nouveaux dirigeants prenant les rênes. Je saisis cette occasion pour féliciter tous les présidents de club nouvellement nommés dans le district 7020. Votre dévouement et votre engagement envers le Rotary sont louables, et je suis convaincu qu'avec votre leadership et l'aide de vos nouveaux conseils d'administration, nos clubs prospéreront et continueront de servir de phares de changement positif grâce à votre action.
Mes félicitations vont également à mon équipe administrative du district entrante. Je peux être à la barre de ce navire, mais vous êtes l'équipage essentiel pour de nombreuses tâches vitales. L'année à venir peut être difficile, mais je ne doute pas qu'avec votre passion, votre travail acharné et votre engagement proactif dans notre district, nous accomplirons de grandes choses ensemble. Travaillons en collaboration, en exploitant nos forces collectives pour poursuivre sur la lancée de l'année de la PDG Deborah.
Cette année, le thème international du Rotary, articulé par le président R. Gordon R. McInally, est "Créer l'espoir dans le monde". C'est un appel à l'action, qui nous rappelle le pouvoir que nous avons de faire une différence dans la vie des autres. En tant que gouverneur de district, mon focus reflétera l'un des deux axes de concentration du président Gordon, à savoir la santé mentale et le bien-être. Nous comprenons l'importance cruciale de soutenir et de plaider en faveur du bien-être mental des individus au sein de nos communautés, et en effet au sein de nos propres clubs. En créant une sensibilisation, en favorisant l'accès aux ressources, en travaillant avec des ONG locales et en favorisant un environnement d'empathie et de compréhension, nous pouvons avoir un impact positif sur de nombreuses vies.
Ensemble, faisons de la sensibilisation à la santé mentale une priorité, tant au sein de nos clubs Rotary que dans la communauté plus large. Engageons des conversations. Demandons comment se portent nos collègues Rotariens, puis demandons "comment vont-ils vraiment". En agissant ainsi, nous contribuerons à la création d'un monde où l'espoir prospère et où les individus se sentent habilités à surmonter les défis auxquels ils sont confrontés.
